NGS Open Days of our garden at Bryn-y-Ddafad

Our gardens at Bryn-y-Ddafad were opened for Charity under the NGS (National Gardens Scheme) on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July 2011.

We closed our doors to bed and breakfast guests for the weekend of the opening and put the final touches to the gardens with an anxious eye on the weather forecast. Our prayers were answered and we were blessed with dry and sunny weather.

In all a total of 222 garden lovers visited the gardens over the weekend, most enjoying tea and homemade cakes as well as the colourful planting.  Apart from locals, some visitors were from Swansea, Neath, Newport, Abergavenny and even Weston-Super-Mare. The gardens were much admired and the weekend considered a great success. County Organiser for the N.G.S.  Mrs Rosamund Davies said ‘it’s wonderful to see so many smiling faces walking around the garden, so many ideas for visitors to take home!’

We were delighted to have raised the sum of £1047 for the N.G.S charities. The gardens will open next on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May 2012 when our spring garden will be on show.

Every year the National Gardens Scheme provides enormous pleasure to countless people across the country , in 2011 over 3,700 gardens will open both big and small. There are 11 charities which benefit under the scheme. In 2011 a total of £2.6 M was distributed from monies raised the previous year. The principal charities to benefit were Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care each receiving £550, 000, Help the Hospices received £450,000 and Crossroads Care £350,000.
